Palestine City Manager Says She Fired Emergency Management Coordinator for Not Having a Walking Dead Plan
PALESTINE, TX— Palestine City Manager Wendy Ellis announced in an exclusive interview with James Robertson of the Palestine Herald-Press that she fired Palestine Emergency Management Coordinator Shelby Wells after she learned that Wells did not have an emergency plan for a zombie apocalypse. Ellis said the television show, “The Walking Dead” heightened her concern for the need for a detailed plan in the event that the dead rise from their graves.
“I watch ‘The Walking Dead’ every week, with my husband, and over the last two seasons I’ve become extremely concerned about the real possibility of the dead rising from their graves,” Ellis told a nodding James Robertson in a video posted on the Facebook page of the Palestine Herald-Press. “I assumed that Shelby Wells had a detailed plan in the event it happened, but when I asked her Friday morning and when she said no I just responded, ‘You’re fired.'”
Ellis said that she simply assumed a plan existed but at the end of this week’s episode, her husband raised the question and she didn’t have the answer. “My husband looked at me, pulled his Santa beard from his face and asked if we had a plan and I didn’t know,” Ellis said while looking directly into the cell phone camera being held by Robertson.
Ellis was especially alarmed by Wells’ lack of concern. “She just laughed at me and this is a serious issue that could easily strike the City of Palestine at any time,” said Ellis.
“It was the only decision that made sense to me. We cannot live in a city that is not ready for the worst case scenario,” Ellis said before Robertson bowed at her feet and the eerie video ended.
In a press release this afternoon, Ellis assured citizens that an emergency plan for a zombie apocalypse would be on the next agenda of the Palestine City Council.
