PALESTINE, TX—In a scene from the movie, “Back to the Future,” former District 1 Councilmember Will Brule and former Mayor Therrell Thomas have taken up time travel to remove current Mayor Bob Herrington from the office he now holds, but evidence suggests their efforts are backfiring.

According to Ronald Mallett, a professor of physics at the University of Connecticut who claims to hold the key to time travel, whatever Brule and Thomas are doing in 2013 is having unintended consequences.

“A photo of Mayor Bob Herrington does indeed show Herrington “disappearing from the history books” but also Wendy Ellis is fading away in the picture suggesting the two have made a horrible mistake back in 2013,” Mallett told The Dogwood Tale.  “Certainly, they’ve altered the time-space continuum, but when they traveled back in time, the goal was to only get rid of Herrington, thus restoring Ellis as city manager.  What they’ve done is not only remove Herrington, but Ellis appears to be fading away as well.”

The crisis is avoidable, should Brule and Thomas realize the mistakes they’ve made and correct them quickly.

“I think they can fix this, but the ball is in their court as to what they need to go back and undo to bring Ellis back and get rid of Herrington,” Mallett said.  “They may find themselves going further back in time to stop Herrington from being conceived or his birth as a child or back to Ellis’ birth to make sure she is still the best pick from the litter, but what is happening now is far from what they wanted, I believe.”

The project to travel back in time and bring Ellis back is being paid for by taxpayers in a hidden budget item included in the 2016 budget by Ellis prior to her departure as city manager.

“She certainly saw the writing on the wall,” District 6 Councilmember Steve Presley said.  “I applaud her for her forethought, but now I am more concerned about her being permanently erased as city manager.  Bob, well, he can go, but we wanted Ellis back.  The effort may certainly be backfiring if Will and Therrell don’t figure out what they’ve done wrong and fix it and fix it fast.”

“Articles from the Palestine Herald-Press from 2013 suggest the two have been revealed as time travelers, one of the biggest mistakes they could have made,” Mallett said.  “It appears they have met their self from the past and that can have devastating consequences as you can see from this photo.  Things  you  never wanted to happen can and will happen when seemingly harmless mistakes are made.”

Brule and Thomas were, obviously, unavailable for comment being they were back in 2013.

“They’re living in the past,” one citizen commented.  “I’ve always said this town just lives in the past and these two have proven it.”
