City of Palestine to Consider Lease Agreement for Adam & Eve Adult Store in Palestine Mall

PALESTINE, TX–The City of Palestine quietly posted the agenda for Monday’s council meeting and the reasons are obvious to even the most uninformed resident of the city.

The Dogwood Tale obtained a photo of the agenda that was posted on the bulletin board at city hall.

The only topic to be discussed Monday is the lease agreement with PHE, Inc., the owner of the Adam & Eve adult stores brand, to run an Adam & Eve store in the Palestine Mall.

“Sex is a part of life,” District 6 Councilmember Steve Presley told The Dogwood Tale.  “While I don’t get much of it, do you know how frustrating it is to sit at that pharmacy in Walmart and watch people buy condoms and other sex health products and not have a way to release some built of urges of my own?  It’s not that I’m not a stud, you know, it’s just that I’m busy being councilman and running around pretending to be the mayor.”

Presley said he spearheaded the opening of the Adam & Eve Store.

The store, expected to open in February, is operated by PHE, Inc., the parent company of Adam & Eve is a conglomerate company that sells sex toys and produces pornographic films, as well as funding non-profit social marketing organizations that address issues such as population growth, disease control and sex education in developing countries. In 2006, it was described by Reuters as one of the handful of studios that dominate the U.S. porn industry.

District 4 Councilman Joseph Thompson was pleased with the decision to place the store at the mall.

“My constituents are against it being in Westwood,” Thompson said.  “They didn’t say anything about the mall.  I absolutely can’t wait to visit and I am thankful to the representatives of Adam & Eve for the awesome gift package.”

Adam & Eve was founded in 1970 by physician Paul Mueller and Phil Harvey. It started as a small storefront on one of Chapel Hill, North Carolina’s main streets, selling condoms and lubricants. It soon became a mail-order catalog selling contraceptives through non-medical channels and is now a national brand.

A representative of PHE, Inc. said that Palestine was a perfect fit.

“We are eager to service the residents of Palestine, no pun intended,” a giggling representative told The Dogwood Tale.  “The mall is a big place and we not only plan to have a store, but eventually a fully operating film production studio.”

In another agreement with the city, coupons for discounts and free items will be distributed in the January water bills.

This is the third attempt by a company to open a sexually oriented business within the city and according to sources at city hall, the most likely to be approved.
