City of Palestine Issues Final Code Red: All Roads Closed; Air Travel Only Way to Attend Hot Pepper Festival
PALESTINE, TX–Acting city manager and police chief Mike Alexander had enough on Saturday after repeatedly activating the Code RED emergency notification system alerting citizens of road closures and decreed that all roads will be closed until further notice with air travel being the only mode of transportation to attend Hot Pepper Festival events.
“Enough was enough,” Chief Alexander told The Dogwood Tale. “Every few hours, there was another call. People were complaining and I reached my limit. We’re closing all the roads and the only way that people will be able to attend the Hot Pepper Festival concerts at the Civic Center will be by air travel. We prefer helicopters, but small planes can land on 287 in front of the Civic Center.
The announcement was made in a final Code RED notification sent to all residents who subscribe to the emergency notification system:
“It was the right decision,” Mayor Bob Herrington said. “Now, the loons that are taking pictures of my home can get some nice aerial shots and stick them in their ass.”
Not all residents were happy, however. Rhonda Ballard said that she has no air transportation and is disappointed that she will not be able to attend the concerts tonight. Her disappointment was heard from several local residents.
“Only police vehicles will be allowed on the roads until Sunday at midnight,” Alexander said.
