PALESTINE, TX–In an unanimous vote of the Palestine City Council at Monday night’s special meeting, the city adopted a new flag to be hoisted above city hall along with old glory.
“I thought about what I envision for the city and its employees and how I manage the city and it occurred to me to take a little of the past of a great leader, who I tend to model my management style after, and use that flag as a starting point when designing our new city flag to represent our future,” City Manager Wendy Ellis said.
The new flag is being manufactured and will be raised after the first regular meeting of city council in August.
“There is something very familiar with this flag,” Mayor Bob Herrington said on his morning talk radio show Thursday morning “I can’t place it, but I’ve seen it somewhere.”
Darla Holt, co-host of the morning talk show, called the flag “ridiculous.”
A celebration for the its raising is planned on the night it is expected to be raised.
