BREAKING: Woman Held in Cage at Palestine Hampton Inn After Conviction by Hotel Tribunal For Having Gun
PALESTINE, TX—Just one day after The Dogwood Tale reported on the activities at the Hampton Inn and their total confiscation of any guns owned by guests at the hotel, now comes word that at least one person is being held in a makeshift cell inside the hotel for openly carrying a firearm on the property on January 2. The law went into effect on January 1.
Margaret Simmons, 39, is being held in a small cage without bail and charged with violating the hotel’s rules about firearms. She can only be released once she pays a $2,000 fine assessed in a hotel tribunal that found the woman guilty last week.
Her family has begged for her release, but the hotel says they will not be releasing the woman until the fine is paid.
“We have a strict gun policy at the Hampton Inn & Suites and she violated it,” a company spokesperson told The Dogwood Tale. “Her only way out, at this stage, is to pay the fine. We’ve repeatedly attempted to charge her credit card, but it has been declined and her family won’t pay because they claim what we are doing is illegal and it might be, I don’t know. I just know she was found guilty by a tribunal that included one guest, a housekeeper and some woman that didn’t speak much English.”
Simmons has been incarcerated in the cage, at an undisclosed location in the hotel, since her ‘arrest’ on January 2 by a housekeeper.
“We gave her a phone from Cellular One and told her to call someone, and we died laughing when she actually believed she would get a signal. She called 9-1-1, it was kind of cute,” the spokesperson said.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page and is begging for help from authorities who have, thus far, ignored their pleas.
