Larry Pannell says he is not former City Manager Wendy Ellis after a sex change operation, but city staff are not convinced.

PALESTINE, TX—Larry Pannell, Palestine’s assistant city manager, finally responded publicly to allegations that he was actually Wendy Ellis following a sex change operation denying that he even knew Ellis.

“I am not and never was Wendy Ellis,” Pannell told reporters at a press conference at Palestine City Hall.  “I have never met Wendy Ellis, don’t want to meet Wendy Ellis and don’t understand where such preposterous rumors could have come from and I want it to stop.”  Pannell said that he would not permit the release of the DNA results citing medical confidentiality.

Interim City Manager and Police Chief Mike Alexander said that whether Pannell is or isn’t Wendy Ellis was important.

“If this is Wendy, and we don’t have any proof of that just yet, then Pannell lied on his employment application,” Alexander explained.  “He would have been required to report that he previously worked for the city under a different name, or in this case name and sex, and that wasn’t reported, therefore if the DNA results show that Pannell is, in fact, Wendy, then he’ll be released immediately.  Quite honestly, I don’t see any physical resemblance.”

City staff are convinced that Pannell is Wendy and want him fired.

“You can just tell,” one employee said.  “I don’t know what it is about him, but it is very obvious that this is Wendy Ellis.  I noticed when he goes to the bathroom, he has almost gone to the ladies room several times then corrects himself and goes to the mens.  This isn’t right and he, or she, should be fired.”

Another employee said she didn’t need a picture to prove it was Wendy.

“The micromanagement and disrespectful behavior was enough to make me suspicious,” the employee declared.

Pannel said that he hired an attorney to fight this attack and expects to prevail.

“This city has a history of not being able to fire people,” Pannell said.  “If anything, it’ll take them about three or four meetings to decide to fire me, especially if Therrell Thomas is elected so what do I really have to worry about?  Then, even if they fire me, they’ll have that city attorney negotiate a nice fat settlement with me like last time, I mean, like with other people so I win no matter what happens.”

The controversy continues to escalate as most male city staff are refusing to use the restroom if Pannell will be allowed to use it.

“I won’t even use it if Wendy is allowed to,” a male employee said.  “They need to make a third restroom or better yet fire her for a second time!”
